About Dr. Redwood

Daniel Redwood, DC is a chiropractor, physician acupuncturist, and writer. He is the author of A Time to Heal: How to Reap the Benefits of Holistic Health (ARE Press, 1993) andContemporary Chiropractic (Churchill Livingstone, 1997). Dr. Redwood is associate editor and book review editor of The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, an editorial board member of Integrative Medicine Consult, and a columnist and consultant for WebMD.

Dr. Redwood’s writing appears regularly in Noetic Sciences ReviewBaltimore ResourcesPathways (Washington, DC), andVisions (Virginia Beach, VA). His book reviews, interviews, commentaries, and other writings have also appeared in Healing and the Mind with Bill Moyers: Resource Guide, Common Ground, Free Spirit, Nexus, Knoxville Perspectives, Kharon, Journal of Couples Therapy, The Australian Comprehensive Medical Association Journal, Journal of the American Chiropractic Association, Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, and International Review of Chiropractic.

He wrote the chapter on chiropractic in Fundamentals of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (Churchill Livingstone, 1996), the first textbook on the subject by a major medical publisher. Other textbook chapters include “Musculoskeletal Disorders Overview” in Physician’s Guide to Alternative Medicine (Medical Economics, 1999) and “Chiropractic Adjustment for Low Back Pain” in Current Review of Complementary Medicine (Current Medicine, 1999).

Dr. Redwood was the first chiropractor ever invited to speak at the National Museum of Health and Medicine. He spoke there at a 1993 conference sponsored by the Museum and the National Institutes of Health Office of Alternative Medicine, on the topic “Chiropractic and the Emerging Holistic Paradigm”. He has also lectured at courses on complementary and alternative medicine at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland and at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. He chaired the chiropractic panel at the 1996 WORLDMED conference in Washington, and was a member of the Integrated Medicine panel. In 1999, he spoke in Seattle at the International Conference on Integrative Medicine.

A graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo, Dr. Redwood received his chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic, where he was student body president. A former Director of Special Projects for the International Chiropractors Association, he was also a recipient of the Outstanding Young Men of America Award. From 1980-89, he practiced in Washington. DC, where his clientele ranged from high-ranking members of Congress to the inner city unemployed. He was Vice President and Legislative Chair for the state chiropractic association in the District of Columbia.

As a singer/songwriter, Dr. Redwood has performed on radio and television, including an appearance on The Larry King Show.

Dr. Redwood lives with his wife Beth in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where his holistic practice includes chiropractic, acupuncture, and nutrition.
